How Can You Maintain Good Kidney Health?

Your kidneys do so much to make you healthier – they filter toxins such as mercury, copper, arsenic, pesticides from your blood. They also regulate certain minerals such as calcium and potassium that is important for your liver to function properly.

In addition, they balance the water supply for the rest of your body. It is important to get your kidneys diagnosed whenever you feel something wrong with them.

Normal renal function is very important to prevent stones and to keep the rest of your organs healthy.

The best way to keep your kidneys healthy is to:

1) Adopt a healthy lifestyle: no smoking, drugs, or heavy alcohol consumption.

2) Stay hydrated: Drinking water in sufficient quantities. This will help to flush toxins and regulate blood pressure. The National Institute of Health recommends drinking 91 ounces of water per day if you are a woman and 105 ounces a day if you're a man.

3) Eat Healthy Kidney Diet:

• Limit animal protein: Excess protein (veterinary) increased wear and tear on the kidney by adding too much nitrogen and uric acid into the blood. This in turn leads to dehydration because it needs more fluids to try and remove these elements.

Limit your animal protein to 8 oz per day (limit whey protein bar for one, 25-30 grams of protein bars per day).

4) Exercise: Regular physical exercise helps your kidneys to remove toxins from your blood more quickly because it speeds up the metabolism.

A healthy lifestyle, whole food diet, and water in sufficient quantities can help in preventing kidney and heart diseases.
